The company is divided into two main levels. Attendance
to piling, haulage and the supply of plant and labour compliments
the major contracting side of the company. With these two levels
in place, Joywheel can offer very competitive rates on all labour,
plant and material requirements, along with their provision at
short notice. In essence, Joywheel can act both with the
flexibility of an agency and reliability of a dependable contractor.
Plant
With
a fleet of 8-wheeled tipper lorries, 4-wheeled tipper lorries and
many smaller lorries and vans, along with a low-loader service, Joywheel
have many excavators, the majority of which are under three years
old and specialised to work on the railway. We also own many forward-tipping
dumpers, rollers and small plant (compressors, compactors etc.) All
records and certification for the plant is kept up to date, and all
meets the stringent safety requirements for rail working.
Labour
Joywheel
employ a range of site staff, from specialist vegetation removal
staff and trained plant operatives to experienced senior foremen
with backgrounds in construction.
Of our site staff, currently approximately 95% hold CSCS
certification and all of our plant operatives have undertaken the
required training and assessments to achieve CPCS certification.
The majority of our plant operators have a wealth of experience
and are known as some of the most skilled in the industry.
Staff training is continually assessed and improved to ensure a
dynamic, productive workforce and in compliance with the
latest legislation.
Staff can be provided for the duration of major contracts or a
few
days at a time.
Materials
Imported
materials include crushed stone (e.g. MOT Type 1), crushed concrete,
hardcore, sand, ballast, concrete, topsoil, subsoil and a wide range
of building materials. All materials provided can be accompanied
by grading curves and contamination test results, which is commonplace
when importing materials to rail sites.
Joywheel are licensed to carry any type of material, from
hazardous contaminated to inert excavation spoil, and
provide a complete service from collection to disposal.
Quality
Joywheel
is committed to continually improving levels of quality and has procedures
in place to ensure this is achieved. The company operates a Quality
Management System which complies with the requirements of BS EN ISO
9001:2000 and has been accredited by BSi (UKAS registered), certificate
number FS 89794. The QMS is formally reviewed annually.
The company is approved by the rail supplier database, Linkup,
for three product groups as well as the core module: 510901
Earthworks – Embankment & Cutting, 5123 Roadways,
Footways & Car Parks and 5114 Land Clearance Specialist
Contractors. We are audited annually on the core module and
earthworks module.
Safety
With
increasing emphasis on health and safety at work in recent years,
particularly in construction and even more so in the rail industry,
Joywheel have responded by forming a health and safety department
that ensures site procedures are upheld with regular site inspections,
site briefings and tool-box talks to staff to communicate the importance
and awareness of health and safety issues to all levels within the
company.
The company has various policies related to safety and quality,
including Health & Safety, Drugs and Alcohol, Hours Worked,
Refusal to Work and Quality & Environmental Policy Statements.
These policies are formally reviewed annually and following
new legislation to ensure continued compliance. We employ the
services of a renowned external consultancy to ensure we are
kept up to date with current legislation.
