About
Us
Joywheel was formed in 1991 with the primary role to accommodate the needs of the piling industry. The reliable supply of plant and lorries to remove spoil from piling was a necessity in order to keep sites clear and facilitate continual work. Many of the sites were in London and access was often very limited and the build-up of spoil presented a real problem. Joywheel soon became renowned as a reliable and flexible contractor with the necessary resources to ensure that this difficulty was overcome, and since then Joywheel has gone from strength to strength.
During the 1990s, Joywheel worked closely with many major contractors, in particular Cementation Skanska, to tackle subsiding railway embankments and between 1995 and 2009
Joywheel completed over 40 such contracts, each worth around half a million
pounds.
Our Experience
Working with major contractors including Cementation Skanska, Tube Lines and Network Rail, Joywheel has successfully carried out enabling and completion works for over twenty embankment or cutting stabilisation projects including Moor Park, East London Line, Lenham, Boston Manor and Turnham Green embankment stabilisations and West Acton and Stanmore cutting stabilisations.
Work involved in these projects range from the enabling works such as access road and piling platform construction to the implementation of stabilisation methods such as retaining wall construction and in-situ concreting, to completion works including re-profiling of embankments and finishing with topsoil and grass-seeding.
The company has in place a Preferred Subcontractor Arrangement direct with Network Rail and have almost completed a £1m lump-sum contract for creating new access points along the West Coast Main Line between London and Stafford. This follows a £1m contract clearing fly-tipped waste, removing lineside buildings and general construction work. Joywheel was also been heavily involved with the Watford- Bletchley Remodeling Project working with Network Rail and Balfour Beatty Rail Projects.
Joywheel has also worked frequently with major contractors involved in construction piling such as Cementation Skanska, Stent (a Balfour Beatty company) and Bachy Soletanche (formerly Westpile).
Involved in general construction work, Joywheel has regularly provided services and materials to major companies such as Tube Lines, Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, Cementation Skanska Civil Engineering and Fondedile. Our team at Stanmore Station carried out engineering work as part of this engineering project over a period approaching two years.
With regard to haulage, key clients include GRS Roadstone, Tarmac, Travis Perkins, Jewsons and Nationwide.
Other works Joywheel have been involved with include demolition and underpinning, bulk excavation projects, drainage and general plant hire.
“Having been in the construction industry for over 35 years and specialising in rail over 20 years ago, I think we have built up a sound knowledge base for working with both London Underground and Network Rail. We understand the stringent safety requirements and unique culture that exists in the rail industry. Employees are trained in-house and on a long-term basis to ensure our sites are staffed by experienced and professional personnel. All of our main site management team have been with the company for at least ten years and ave a highly detailed understanding of their work environment. We also generally have an exceptionally low staff turnover.
My philosophy is to lead the company with a culture of pride in our work and what we hope to achieve. The safe, consistent delivery of quality and maintaining good relationships is vital to ensuring satisfaction for our clients and ultimately delivering repeat business. We recognise he importance of continuous and substantial reinvestment to maintain our high standards.”
